TRADING WATER LICENCES
Water licences entitle the owner to hold and use water and these licences may be traded permanently or for a set period of time. Trading involves surface (river) water and groundwater (bore water) and both products can be bought on a permanent or temporary basis.
SERVICES
Percat Water assists with all aspects involving the trading of water. This includes water leases, the sale and lease back of water licences, as well as consulting services to government and the private sector about water markets and water trading.
DEFINITIONS
Surface Water
Rivers, streams and creeks are known in the water industry as Surface Water. The largest geographic water trading area in the world is the Murray Darling Basin where licences to the value of $billions are traded annually.
Groundwater
Underground or bore water is known as Groundwater, which can be traded on a permanent or temporary basis when the resource has been prescribed by legislation as a recognised water resource and when a Water Management Plan, which allows trading, exists.
